Summary: What games are really being played on Talent Night?
Disclaimer: blah blah blah, I DON’T OWN THEM
Kathryn stared at Chakotay, “So here we go with talent night yet again.”
Chakotay raised an eyebrow, “So they say. Tom just keeps pushing the buttons.”
“What did he do this time?”
Chakotay gathered his thoughts, “Well, you see he told Harry that he wanted him to compose a song on his clarinet for his one year wedding anniversary with B’Elanna.”
Kathryn shook her head, “And?”
“Well then Tom and Harry got in a fight because Harry wanted to play the Sax not the Clarinet and –“
“Oh so that’s how that first fight broke out in ‘Fair Haven’.”
Chakotay nodded, “I know they told everyone that it was over rings, but now you know the truth: It took me 2 hours to finally get it out of Tom.”
Kathryn chuckled, “Do I even want to know how you got it out of him?”
“Well you’re going to find out soon.”
Kathryn raised an eyebrow, “And why is that?”
“Because the only way he’d tell me is if I promised to get you to sing whatever song Harry either composed or chose.”
Kathryn’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head as Chakotay left the ready room and Kathryn realized she’d been caught.
[3 Days later – Janeway Quarters]
Kathryn put her head in her hands. *I am going to kill Chakotay *.
Harry had finally gotten back to her with his choice of song. ‘Your Heart Will Go On’ by a 20th Century singer named Celine Dion.
She had listened to it and it was a beautiful song, but it had been so long since Kathryn had sung seriously. She was going to get Chakotay.
She had had a conversation with Tom about making the scenery for talent night to mirror the images from the movie Titanic.
This would almost be worth the humiliation and embarrassment.
Kathryn pulled the ice blue dress out of her closet that Tom had designed based on that movie and Kathryn stared at it.
She knew it fit, but whether she would look good in it or not was something totally different.
Kathryn sighed and went to the holodeck where she was getting Vocal lessons to make her voice sound a little better than it had in a while.
She blushed as she stood at the front of the simulation of what the mess hall would look like when Tom was done decorating for talent night and began her lessons.
[12 Days later – Paris Quarters]
Kathryn buzzed for entrance in Tom and B’Elanna’s Quarters. Today was the first day she had tried on the dress that
Tom had designed for her.
When the doors opened and Tom showed his face, she just about bowled him over, “You know, I saw the dress earlier, and I thought it was pretty. Tom the slit in the back of this dress shows just a little too much leg, and unfortunately I don’t have cleavage like Seven to show off the front of the dress.”
He shrugged, “That’s Chakotay’s fault.”
“What do you mean its Chakotay’s fault, you told me you designed it alone!”
Tom smiled, “Well I needed a little help; I’m not that creative.”
B’Elanna walked out from the back room. “What did he do this time?”
Kathryn showed B’Elanna the schematics for the dress and informed her that Chakotay had had a hand in it.”
B’Elanna rolled her eyes. “That P’Tak.”
“My thoughts exactly although I’m not sure if you’re referring to Tom, Chakotay or them both.”
The girls laughed and left the quarters heading for the mess hall for late night coffee.
[Mess Hall – 20 minutes later]
“What the hell were they thinking?”
“Well I can guess what Chakotay was thinking.” B’Elanna stated and then looked at the Captain. “You’ll look really hot in that dress though Kat.”
“That’s not the point. I’m the Captain, I should have said no right away when they asked me to sing: I haven’t done that in years.”
“And you know that Tom was involved in picking a song from a 20th century movie.”
Kathryn nodded, “You know it.”
“So is it true that this is for your first year anniversary?”
“Well that’s the story, but I’m not so sure that it has more to do with that or with Tom and Harry trying to get you and Chak together anymore.”
Kathryn rolled her eyes, “You want to know a secret?”
B’Elanna nodded curious. “Okay.”
“We’ve been together since two days after ‘New Earth’. The sex was too good to pass up on.”
B’Elanna’s jaw dropped open. “So why the secrecy?”
“Because watching Tom’s ham fisted attempts to get us together was too funny.”
B’Elanna laughed, “Don’t you know it.” She sighed, taking in a deep breath, “So why let the cat out of the bag now?”
Kathryn shrugged, “I’m just tired of hiding it. I mean it’s kind of pointless now.” She paused, “And I want to see the look on Tom’s face when he finally finds out that we’ve been fooling him for 4 years.”
B’Elanna nodded, “Fair enough, but why did you want to see me tonight?”
“Well, I need your help for this one.”
B’Elanna scrunched up her nose in confusion, “This is going to be bad isn’t it?”
“Not bad just surprising.”
B’Elanna stared at her, “Okay.”
“Can you sing?”
B’Elanna shook her head, “Not really, but I can get by why?”
“I have the greatest idea for those dorks of men of ours.”
Kathryn and B’Elanna walked to Chakotay’s old quarters where they would have some privacy and engaged the security lock. “He never uses these quarters anymore anyway.”
B’Elanna nodded, “Okay so what are you up to?”
“How do you look in a school girl’s uniform?”
[3 Days later – Talent Night – 2 hours]
Kathryn stared at B’Elanna, “So everything’s ready?”
B’Elanna nodded, “Oh yeah it’s ready…but do you think Harry will die if you do to him what you’re planning on doing to him?”
Kathryn shrugged, “It’s okay he’s a yellow ensign.”
“And we all know what happens to yellow ensigns.”
Kathryn and B’Elanna worked on Kathryn’s dress on top of the school girl uniform and on both of their costumes and makeup. And hour later they looked at each other satisfied. “I think we’re ready.”
“And I think its Tom’s fault for putting me up first.”
B’Elanna nodded, “I think you’re right.”
[45 minute later – mess hall]
She had to give Tom credit he had done the mess hall up to look like a sinking ship in ice cold water. She shook her head and stood on stage.
“Well Tom where’s Harry? I’m doing this because you said he was doing this for you and B’Elanna.”
Tom squirmed, “He said he’d be here and if he’s not here soon I’ll kill him.” He looked Kathryn up and down, “And might I add you look lovely tonight.”
“Thank you Tom, but I’ll kill you if you do anything too embarrassing to me.”
Tom nodded as Harry and Chakotay walked into the mess hall. Chakotay’s tongue hung out of his head, and Harry’s eyes bugged out at the scene before them.
Harry got ready and put his clarinet to his lips tuning the instrument.
Kathryn got up and ready for the performance.
Ten minutes later it began and the crew watched in awe as the haunting music from years gone by filled the hall.
Then when it was over, before anyone even got a chance to clap at the Captain’s brilliant performance. She ripped her gown off exposing the school girls outfit and B’Elanna’s genius of fixing the musical performance for the night stopped.
All of a sudden they in what looked like a high school hall way and Kathryn opened her mouth singing, “I think I did it again.”
Tom’s mouth dropped open as B’Elanna joined her dressed much the same way.
Chakotay walked up to Tom, “What are they doing?”
Tom shrugged, “I have no idea, but we were messing with the Captain and Chief Engineer so you know we should have expected something like this.”
Chakotay sighed, “Why do I have a feeling we’re going to be playing it her way tonight?”
Tom stared at him, “I beg your pardon?”
“I know you’ve been trying for what four years, but we’ve been together for that long.”
Tom shook his head, “So everything I did was useless?”
“No it produced hours of amusement for Kathryn and I.”
The boys watched the performance as Kathryn walked up to where Harry stood with his mouth hanging op and pulled him to her.
Chakotay shook his head. “Incredible.”
“What?”
“She got us good, they both did.”
“Looks like more than just you were playing games tonight.”
